Great Fabric and Craftsmanship: Navy Cotton Seersucker Trousers

Smart/casual summer trousers can be tricky to get right. Mid-grey or taupe high-twist trousers can feel a bit too formal, off-white/cream can be a bit loud for certain settings, and heavy Irish linen doesn't always pair well with the linen jackets and overshirts I wear throughout the summer.

I was looking for a versatile, tailored navy cotton seersucker trouser to pair with light linen and chambray shirts, as well as a wide range of summer jackets. However, finding the right pair on the market is surprisingly tough—most options are either overly casual (with elastic or drawstring waists) or made from wool-blend seersucker.

Having had a great experience with Germain Tailors on a previous MTO order, I was thrilled to see they offered just what I was looking for in a crisp cotton seersucker fabric from Huddersfield Fine Worsteds (Hardy Minnis).

Fabric & Craftsmanship: The fabric choice, depth of the navy color, and overall tailoring are spot-on. The finishing and hardware live up to the high standard I’ve come to expect from Germain.

Fit & Sizing: I am normally a size 34 / 52 and went with size 34 in their "Comfort Fit" (single pleat). As someone with an athletic build and more muscular thighs, I found the leg to be a bit narrower with more taper than I anticipated for a comfort fit. In hindsight—and looking at their detailed measurement chart—I should have opted for the Wide Fit (double pleats) for a roomier summer silhouette.

Aside from preferring a slightly wider leg cut for my build, the quality and execution are excellent.

Overall, a solid 4/5, and I wouldn't hesitate to order trousers from Germain again—just in the wide fit next time!
